This page explains what BikeSpec does with information about visitors. BikeSpec is operated from the United Kingdom, and UK data protection law applies.

What is collected

There are no accounts on BikeSpec and there is nothing to sign up for, so no name, address or payment information is ever requested or held.

The web server keeps standard access logs. Each entry records the IP address of the request, the time, the page requested, the referring page and the browser user agent. These logs are used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse or errors. They are kept for a limited period and then deleted.

If you send an email to the address on this site, the message and your email address are held for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry.

Cookies

BikeSpec does not set advertising cookies and does not sell data about visitors.

When you follow a link from BikeSpec to a retailer, the affiliate network handling that link may set a cookie in your browser. The cookie records that the visit came from BikeSpec, so that any commission on a resulting sale can be attributed. That cookie is set by the network, not by BikeSpec, and it is governed by that network's own privacy policy. BikeSpec receives only aggregate reporting from the network, such as the number of clicks and sales, and does not receive the identity of individual buyers.

Cookies can be blocked or deleted in your browser settings. Blocking them does not affect your ability to use this site or to buy from a retailer.

Retailers you visit

Once you follow a link to a retailer, you are on that retailer's website and its privacy policy applies to what happens there, including any order you place.

Legal basis

Server logs and the operation of the site rely on legitimate interests, specifically keeping the service available, secure and working correctly. Handling an email enquiry relies on legitimate interests in responding to the person who wrote in.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you may request a copy of any personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or erased, or object to its processing. Write to hello@bikespec.co.uk. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

This page will be updated if the site starts using analytics or any other service that processes visitor data, and the date at the top will change.
